Dr. Melissa Vargas

PT, DPT

Physical Therapist

I am a Chicagoland native who moved to Zionsville, Indiana at the end of 2021. I have been practicing as a Doctor of Physical Therapy since 2008. As a high school athlete, I experienced a running injury that led me to physical therapy, where I discovered a career that felt dynamic, engaging, and centered on helping people stay active with less pain.

I graduated from Marquette University, earning my Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. My philosophy is that through individualized programs, connection, and trust, I can help empower and guide people on their journey toward achieving their goals.

Clinical Approach

I strongly believe in the power of manual therapy and approach each session with a comprehensive, holistic focus to identify the root cause of dysfunction. Over time, my practice has evolved with an emphasis on treating low back pain, hip pain, SI dysfunction, foot and ankle conditions, pelvic floor conditions, pregnancy-related conditions, postpartum recovery, and running-related injuries and return-to-running.

In exploring ways to better serve my patients, I pursued coursework in pelvic health and discovered a strong interest in helping individuals navigate pelvic floor conditions that impact daily life. I have a special interest in supporting women through pregnancy and postpartum, helping them address pelvic pain, dysfunction, and return to activity. I recently completed my certification as a Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist. As a mom of three, I understand both the challenges and the victories that come with recovery and return to function.

I also have a strong passion for working with runners and utilize return-to-running strategies as well as video gait analysis. I have completed several half marathons and marathons, including the Chicago Marathon at 10 months postpartum after my first child. I enjoy both the mental and physical challenges of running and am fascinated by what the body can achieve. I am also bilingual and speak conversational Spanish.

Outside the Clinic

Outside of the clinic, I can typically be found spending time with my husband and three young children, exploring the Indianapolis area, listening to podcasts, or enjoying a cup of coffee at a local café.
